By now, you know that I have fallen in love with the book Captivating, by Stasi and John Eldredge. You can read all the Captivating posts here or by clicking the Captivating topic link on the left side of my blog.
Now, I am reading the male companion book, Wild at Heart, written by John Eldridge, along with my husband. This book is as radical and life changing for men as Captivating is for women.
This is an excerpt from page 18.
"What if? What if those deep desires in our hearts are telling us the truth, revealing to us the life we were meant to live? God gave us eyes so that we might see; he gave us ears that we might hear; he gave us wills that we might choose; and he gave us hearts that we might live. The way we handle the heart is everything. A man must know he is powerful, he must know he has what it takes. A woman must know she is beautiful, she must know she is worth fighting for."
Eyes to see, ears to hear, will to choose, heart to live. That is so powerful to me. He gave us everything we need to be happy on the inside. It doesn't say he gave us muscles to be strong, power to crush, intelligence to climb the ladder. Everyday, I come closer and closer to understanding that we were meant to be enough, on the inside. That's a very hard concept to wrap my head around in the culture we live in. Look around the world. How many of the African tribes dress in suits and take the commuter rail to a career that keeps them from their family for 14 hours a day? None. How many SAHMs look back and say, "I with I didn't spend all that time with my kids?" None.
