Devotions

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal (Isaiah 26:3-4 NIV)

Sit in an airport if you ever get the chance.  It’s an eye opener into the social complexities of the human race.  Sit and watch parents whose children will not behave after waiting for a delayed plane. Watch how the mother placates her children into silence as the father becomes irritated. Observe the young businessman late for his flight angrily maneuvers around and elderly lady trying to balance her luggage and walking cane. Pick out the lonely traveler, whose head does not rise to meet anyone’s eye.

There is so much pain, hurt and sorrow in our world. And, I’m not even talking about world hunger, poverty and genocide of nations. I’m talking about everyday so-called middle-class people shuffling to and from the next item on their agenda, dragging their children behind them. I’m talking about the couple that’s been married for 46 years and none of them were happy years. I’m talking about the young woman afraid to step out on her own, so ashamed of the mistakes she’s made that she cannot get past them to make a life for herself, so instead she stays where she is, holding her young child close to her at night.

The pain is unbearable if you let it in. But in Christ, we have something better. He replaced the pain with peace; the hurt with a heart full of love for others and the sorrow with a song of praise. He has changed our hearts and our eyes so we can fix ourselves on Him instead of the world. It leaves us with peace. Putting all our faith and all our trust into Jesus is the only way to make it through this crazy place we call earth.

God, you knew we couldn’t do it without you. You knew we needed saving and you knew we didn’t know where to begin. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for giving me this ever lasting peace that is such a rare commodity in this world.
