Focus on the Goal
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 07:00

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NIV)

Why is it that it’s so hard to be strong, yet so easy to be discouraged? Why is it that fear is easier to instill than confidence? Is it because there is something innately inadequate about humans?  No, friends. It is simply because fear and discouragement are not of God. They are tools of the enemy thrown at us during times of trial in the hopes of dashing our spirit and getting us to give up hope.

How many times have you heard that nothing worthwhile is easy?  It’s hard work to stay focused, to stay confident and to throw out fear.  We have to diligently and consciously remember that we are in this for the right reasons.  Temptation is everywhere and all it takes is one slip to make some of us fall.  Friends, I encourage you to stand your ground when it gets hard, that’s how you know you’re in the right place.  Nothing worthy is easy. Only temporary pleasures come without work.  Focus on the goal and move ahead in faith.

God, sometimes I don’t know which end is up. Sometimes it’s hard just to keep my head about water.  I see people around me who are constantly telling me there is an easier way and sometimes I think to myself that maybe they’re right.  Then I see it for what it is, Lord. I see it as a ploy, a game to get me distracted from you.  God, I pray that I have the strength to say no when my relationship with you is on the line.
